The Fuzzy Gnome

A lot of people have asked why I am named "Fuzzy Gnome" at the front of my Webpage. They want to know what is a "Fuzzy Gnome", where did it come from, and what is its meaning ... so here are the answers.

When I first got sick, I had long brown hair. But because of the very strong chemotherapy that they gave me, all of it fell out soon after I went into the hospital. My eyebrows and eyelashes fell out too, just a little later.

When I saw myself in a mirror, I thought that I looked like a bald headed space alien, but my Mom pointed out that I still had a "little" bit of fuzzy blondish hair left on top, and she thought that I looked more like a gnome than a space alien. The nurses soon found out about this, and from that day on, my nickname has been "Fuzzy Gnome".

One day, when I was surfing the Net, I came across a page that had a whole string of funny little blue gnome pictures on it, and I fell in love! I got my Dad to rescue the pictures from my Netscape cache file (I still don't know how he does it, but he does) and it's been my mascot ever since. I even put a picture of "Fuzzy" on the front page of my Home Page. But as time went on, my Dad thought that a picture of me, looking like a fuzzy gnome, would be more appropriate. So there I am!

Unfortunately, we were never able to find the original page again, so if Fuzzy Gnome belongs to you or someone you know, please get in touch and we will give credit where credit is due.

Here are just a few of the things that people have guessed my mascot is all about:

- Me a couple of days after receiving chemotherapy.

- The nurse who gave me a needle in the backside when my Mom wasn't looking.

- The bosses at Wimsey/iStar after they found out how many hits my site is receiving.

- One of the "hot-shot" boys that I passed in my car during the Turkey Race last year.

- My brother David after he accidentally trashed my entire Webpage!

And that's the story about the blue gnome.
